Women's SCA Kidney Belt
Most Kidney
belts just don't seem to conform to the
curves of the female torso. The main concern
is the hips, where most of these types of
belts end up jabbing the combatant in the
ribs rather than protecting them. This belt
was specifically crafted to allow for this
overlooked necessity and is crafted from
heavy 13/15 oz leather. The strapping also
allows for the attachment of leggings and
buckle replacement, if desired. Measurements
required: torso circumference at the navel,
underarm to waist measurement, hips
circumference.
"Historically, scale armor, usually
of bronze or iron, was among the most
long-lived and widely used forms of
protection. It first appeared in Egypt and
the Near East about the middle of the second
millennium B.C. and continued to be worn in
Europe as late as the seventeenth century
A.D."
Our Eurasian leather armour is
inspired by a piece currently held in the
Metropolitan Museum of Art in NYC which is the
single only example entirely of leather that survives from such a period. It is
composed of hard leather scales attached to
a soft leather lining. It
"seems most likely that the armor was
made by one of the nomadic cultures of
Eurasia—possibly the Scythians, who
dominated the steppes from the sixth to the
second century B.C."

leather scales attached to a 3-4 oz suede

We
have searched for a Leather Lorica
Segmentata of armour
grade leather which matched the authenticity
replicated here and can not find its equal.
The
Roman legions that conquered all who opposed
Rome wished they could have been clad in
this much lighter but debatably more efficient 10/12 oz
or 13/15 oz leather.
We use the thickest grade leather available
or to your specifications. Also available
with laced torso closure (shown) or buckle
and strap torso closure.

Of
the number of Brigandines available there
are two most popular types. One which
sandwiches a layer of steel or leather
plates between two layers of suede and
another which aligns the plates on the
outside of the harness. Ours is of the
latter and is composed of 13-15 oz leather
outer plates riveted to a 5-6 oz supple oil

Cuirass with Hardened Plackard
Our take on one
of the
first homogeneous cuirass which dated from the
end of the 14th Century. This cuirass has
become more popular with female SCA combatants
as it provides the necessary protection for
the upper torso and also allows for good
freedom of movement. The plackard is
cuirbouille hardened by our traditional
method.The main consideration here in design
was for strength of the final product while
keeping as historically correct as possible.

One
of the main problems confronted when designing
a women's harness is that the weight of
the armor is distributed differently than
on a male. In order for the upper cuirass
to be able to move more freely and to prevent
pinching the breast area, this wide heavy
belt covers the midsection nicely. The weight
of leggings can be displaced more comfortably
on the hips than to have the entire upper
harness supported by the shoulders. Also
in this way the upper harness can be placed
high enough so that there is no danger of
pinching tender areas. Available in black,

Roguess. Tis true, this harness has
the look of mystery and danger. We agree,

intentionally cut to about midsection to

Late 14th Century Spaulders
The armour of
the late 14th Century made use of a lot of
cuirbouille leather, especially at this
shoulders, knees and elbows. These one- piece
spaulders are hardened by our traditional 4
step cuirbouille method that everyone is so
curious about. This time intensive method has
hardened leather to incredible heights. (see
some of the tests we have performed on it
here) It also
protects it against one of the main concerns
of leather armour-mildew.
Fashioned after 14th
century carvings, these spaulders are also
